Glasshouse Outside Wedding Photos

Venue: The Glasshaus Outside

The Glasshaus Outside, how did you come
across it, why did you choose it?

The venues were the first things we booked. Jo works near the Glasshaus so we checked out both the Glasshaus Inside and the Glasshaus Outside. The ‘Outside’ was perfect for what we were looking for.

We wanted a small and intimate ceremony just for our immediate family and closest friends that had a relaxed and magical feel. Glasshaus Outside was perfect. As soon as we walked into the venue we knew we needed to get married there. We loved the overall feel and how the plants and greenery made the space so warm, magical and so different to any wedding we had been to before.

For the reception, we choose Cafe Au79 after having breakfast there. We knew straight away we wanted to have our wedding reception there

We wanted somewhere that could accommodate a large number of people for a cocktail party that was unique with an urban city vibe. Cafe Au79’s interior decor sold it for us. It has beautiful greenery that we felt tied into the feel of our ceremony and was a modern and industrial base to work with.

Q&A with Jo & Sean

What was your favourite detail about the day?

When it comes to finer details of the day, the flowers were our favourite. We loved the colouring and array of different flowers used. They brought the space with the Glasshaus alive and added character that perfectly reflected us and our vision of the day. Another cheeky favourite detail about the day was that Sean's brother performed our ceremony, this was so intimate and special to us.

The dress, what was it about the dress that made think “that’s the one”?

I knew that I didn’t want a traditional white wedding dress but I still wanted a show-stopping moment, it needed to be fabulous. I saw the dress online before even thinking about dress shopping and I got butterflies in my stomach as soon as I did. I instantly fell in love! I was nervous to try it on in case it didn’t look good on me and I would have to wear something else that would've always felt second best. It was the first and only dress I tried on and it was amazing!

What was your favourite moment?

When discussing this point we both instantly say the moment when we first saw each other was our favourite of the day. It was such a big build-up to that special moment where we locked eyes for the first time, we were both smiling, laughing and crying all at the same time.

Words of advice for anyone planning a DIY or styling their wedding?

Be organised. The more organised you are further out from the day the calmer and stress-free the whole lead up will be. We aimed to have everything completely organised 2-3 weeks out so we weren’t stressing over anything too close to the actual day. We would also say to trust in your vision. It is hard to visualise what everything will look like when you are creating or sourcing all of the elements yourself. We had to trust ourselves and when it all came together it was just as amazing as we talked about at the beginning.

We are glad we.....?

We are glad we got Sean’s brother, Joseph, to be our celebrant. We used a company called Celebrant Buddy who set us up before the big day and coached Joseph (not a qualified celebrant) through the whole process. Joseph was then able to write such a personal and unique ceremony that everyone loved. Doing this made the ceremony so unique to us...there wasn’t a dry eye in the house.

Any stand out vendors?

As a wedding stylist myself (@twigandtype), I have styled other people’s weddings and I love the reward of seeing a bride and grooms day come to life just as they envisioned it.

So when the opportunity arrived to style my wedding, right down to the finest detail it was a dream come true. With some consultation from the groom (Sean, my husband) I put together our wedding invitations, flowers and styling and we were really happy with the final result. The table flowers at the ceremony were my favourite part of the styling, they made the Glasshaus Outside come alive.

Our photographer Eerik was also a stand out for us. He made us feel relaxed, with little techniques and tricks so we were at ease and natural in front of the camera. He captured everything we wanted and in the candid style, we love. Our photos came back to us so quickly and the treatment of them was beautiful.

We didn’t shy away from traditions, we just wanted to do them our way. For example, we did the first dance at the reception but we did it to an acoustic version of Beyonce’s Love on Top, we cut the cake but we followed it with Missy Elliott’s Get Your Freak On, we had a bridal party but we wanted them to wear whatever they chose. I did carry a handkerchief with me all day that my grandmother gave to my mum on her wedding day which I’ll treasure forever.

Touch of tradition...anything you planned for that was
a twist of old wedding traditions?
